Have you ever wondered about the origins of Bonbons? Well, let me tell you a little story!

Bonbons actually have a royal history and originate from France. They would be given as gifts on important occasions and holidays such as Christmas and new year.

To this day, if you visit France and ask for bonbons, you won’t get what you’re expecting, instead you’ll receive a small chocolate treat. Yes, French Bonbons are actually small delicate chocolates! Something certainly got lost in translation when they were bought here, as the Bonbons we know and love are certainly not chocolatey but instead a fruity burst of flavour.

The best way to describe British bonbons is, fruity at the start, and as you savour them, they become softer, almost like heavenly toffee. So let's take a moment to revel in the greatness of the British Bonbon. They're simply one of the best "feel good" treats out there!

The Bonbons we know and love became hugely popular in the 1970’s with Strawberry Bonbons, Blue Raspberry Bonbons and Toffee Bonbons being the “go to” flavours that almost every sweet shop and corner shop stocked at one point but depending on where you lived you’ll either have memories of one of 2 different types of bonbons – hard or chewy!

Lucky for you, at Berrymans, we offer the best of both. So, for those who prefer the dusted chewy kind we offer our “chewy centred” bonbons and also the regular type.

Most of us prefer the regular kind until we eat the chewy softer bonbons at which point we change our minds. Both are worth trying and you’ll certainly hold fond memories of one of these.

We’d consider ourselves the specialists in bonbons as we have the biggest range and types anywhere and trust us our bonbons taste incredible. We think Bonbons are so great that we offer them in various weird and wonderful flavours. Don't forget to explore our full range of these delectable treats!

We have the usual Strawberry, Toffee and Blue Raspberry. But we also do:

Lemon Bonbons, Cherry Bonbons, Bubblegum Bonbons, Watermelon Bonbons, Apple Bonbons and Even Irn Bru Bonbons!

In our Dusted Bonbons Range we also do Strawberry Bonbons, Toffee Bonbons and Blue Raspberry Bonbons. But we also do a Dusted Lemon Bonbon as well as Dusted Blackcurrant and Liquorice Bonbons.

Did you know - Bonbons originates from the French phrase “bon bon”, which translates to “good good”. It perfectly describes our bonbons.

FAQ - For the millennials and Gen Z

What exactly are Strawberry Bonbons? If you were born post-1980s, you might not know the answer. Picture this: a chewy centre nestled in a crisp casing, generously coated with sweet and fruit flavoured icing sugar. The casing is full of flavour, while the centre surprises you with firm or chewy toffee. It's an irresistible combination!

So, how do you devour a Bonbon? We won't impose rules on you, but you've got two choices with bonbons: either take a big bite and relish the soft centre immediately or savour the outer casing, letting it dissolve slowly before reaching the chewy surprise in the middle. We prefer the latter.

How many bonbons should I eat in one sitting? Eat to your hearts content. Bonbons shouldn’t be rationed and at Berrymans, we always do our best to make sure we have enough bonbons in stock for you and anyone else you might decide deserves a treat.
